The Fall

Leaves fall from trees

Autumn bare

Branches escaping everywhere

Snatched glimpses of something brown,

Feathery, fluffy,

Gentle soft down

Rusts and Ochres

Burnt orange and reds

Flashes of white dance through the sky

Wind whipping up a vortex of yellow

Maple leaves against a crisp clear blue sky

Fluttering, swaying they settle down to the ground

Flash of tail darts behind bark

Hiding in the shadows till after dark

Squirrels are gathering their long winter stash

As nature starts it’s bitter decline,

For the first time, in a long time, I’ve seen it all

Without doubt - I’ll always remember,

This year’s Fall!

Morning Sun

May your day shine bright from the start

That exquisite stillness that calms the heart

May your day be filled with peace

Like rays of the sun gleaming in your eyes

A peace so pure and clean

It cuts like a shard through your battered dreams

The crispness of a cool summer's day

Can melt away the trials of yesterday

Refreshed, renewed and full of life

No more weighed down by stress and strife

The long night's bitter dreams of pain

Will give way to the peace of the morning sun

Which with it brings the hope of a new day

A time to find a better way

To learn to live and laugh anew

Sweet peace, sweet morning sun

I wait for you.

More Coming Soon

Urban Autumn

Crunch, clink, clunk

The great and mighty oak

Standing majestic and strong

Overseeing eye of all that’s gone on

On a bland and ordinary Tuesday

Leaves on trees shimmy

The warm, inviting lights of homes

Autumnal grey sky

Wind, cold and biting my face

Hinting at the Winter yet to come.

Cracks in the pavement run like threads of silk

The patchwork of tarmac on years of tarmac

Bumps, rivets, ravines

Laced like veins

Golden Gifts

Golden gifts

Fall to the ground

Littered leaves abound

Treasure piles of gold and copper

Lying discarded on the earth

Like fallen soldiers littering the field

These bodies that were so integral

An essential part of a whole

Now discarded and decaying

Their beauty fades to brown

Curling, crunching under feet

Finally crumpling to pieces

Turning to flakes and dust

Absorbed back into the eco system

To provide bugs with homes and food

To enrich the soil, to fertilise

Nothing is really every gone

It’s just changed form and moved on

Matter evolves but can never be eradicated

Everything on this planet we call home

Has always been there and will always be there

Just evolving, changing and growing.

Into The Blue

The haunting call to prayer sounds

As you lazily rest your head back down

The soft pink and ivory organza

Curtains flutter in the breeze

Glimpses of a life beyond the pink room

Soft creamy, sweet fragrance of this place

Your loved one stretches out their arms

To embrace you sleepily

You drift in and out of sleep

Until the blue beckons you

Calls to you from your dreams

Hot, sounds of cicadas buzzing

Hazy sunlight touching bare skin

Sounds of distant building work,

High in the mountains

Climb down, trepidation

Head under, all is forgotten

As you sink into the blue.
